Waste Allocation Load Lifter-Earth Class (WALL-E) !!!!!!!

Since Rachel Young caught a glimpse of the WALL-E trailer a few months back, all other Summer blockbusters were automatically put on the back burner following WALL-E. Personally, I am anxiously awaiting Hellboy II, but I have to admit, i was also a bit excited about seeing WALL-E. With Iron Man and The Hulk being such strong movies, I definitely thought the rest of the Summer would be downhill as far as trips to the cinema go.

I was wrong.

By no means do I consider myself a proper film critic, but I do know when I like what I just watched after paying $10 to get into the theatre. WALL-E was surprisingly AMAZING! I don’t know if you guys are all into the whole Disney thing, but to me, it seems like Disney always nails it when it comes to their Pixar movies, and even before the third dimension was introduced into their movies, Disney had a good sized snowball rolling down the hill.

My buddy Renier told me the other day, “when you’ve watched a lot of movies, you start to see the same story re-created again with different characters.” Or something to the effect of that. This is true in WALL-E. Its the typical trash compacting robot with roach friend meets iPod looking cannon armed robot and save the world. Or, boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, and everyone lives happily ever after.

Oh, and mark one down for another Disney movie with no parents.

There is an ongoing thing about Disney movies with a single parent, or a parent that dies in the majority of their animated movies. Think about it, its true.

Chinese People Play Hockey?!?

Many of you may know that I am an avid hockey fan, for those of you who didn’t know that, well, there you have it. I’ve also been playing roller hockey for 13 years in South Florida. Over the years leagues have moved around a bit but I’ve been playing in an adult league at the Suniland court (www.sunilandhockey.org) for a few years now. As you can expect, I am the tail end of many of all of the racist Asian jokes that the guys scream at me while I am on the court. All in a joking matter of course.

On the Suniland website, they have little featurette’s on some of the league’s more colorful characters, this week, they put the spotlight on the Asian guy.

New York Nightshift!

For the second time this year, New York Laguardia airport made preparations for my arrival to New York City. Okay, just kidding, they only made preparations the first time because when I landed late Thursday night my luggage was nowhere to be found. I reported to the American Airlines luggage center where i was given a “tracking number” and I was told that my luggage would reach New York and be delivered to the Red Roof Inn by 12pm the next day, dont cross your fingers.

After recieving my “tracking slip” from the luggage center, I hopped on the Budget rental bus that took me to meet up with Gene, Neil, and Preston. Neil had reserved a minivan which ended up working out for us when they told us they were out of minivans and they had to upgrade us to a white Lincoln Navigator, oh hells yeah!

Before I forget to mention it, we were all in NYC for HIN Nightshift and the fifth stop on the Tjin Edition Tour which pretty much guaranteed a good time. After checking into the hotel and helping DLight and the tour trailer find the hotel, we went for food and called it a night, we had a long day of set up on friday.

Friday morning came around, and I was still without my luggage that had half of my photo gear in it, not to mention my clothes etc. We made our way out to the show for set-up and waited for the Toronto fools to arrive. Which didnt end up happening until later in the day. While helping to set-up I also managed to talk to 30 different employees at American Airlines who all told me something different about my lost baggage. I was told it was already out for delivery and i would have it by 6pm. Once again, dont cross your fingers.

After finishing set-up we made our way out to China Town for dinner with the gang, Phil Luis, Mike Fine, Joey Redmond, Industry Mogul and Chris Forsberg tagged along for some amazing soup dumplings that nobody liked. It was also Phil’s “birthday.” After dinner the guys went to some bar where Neil thought they’d be serving Pepsi all night while watching college football with his stink bombs. Gene, Preston and I went a few blocks over to catch up with Vimala Sim, an old friend who we havent seen in a while which ended up being a good time.

At this point it was about 1am and I still had not received confirmation that my bag had been delivered, at this point I gave up and went back to the room. The Toronto fools had arrived and were already at the hotel so it was time to call it a night, to my surprise, my bag was waiting for me at the hotel, what a relief that was. Took American Airlines 24 hours to deliver my bag to me, they offered me $50 in compensation to buy clothes and toiletries, what a joke.

Saturday had arrived, and I now had clean clothes to wear, and all of my photo gear for Justin Lim’s photo shoot that was scheduled for later in the day. When we woke up, we were all dropped off at the track so I could get started shooting Justin’s car while Gene and Preston went to the city with Vince and the girls. I’ll post some preview pics of Justins car later on.

I’d have to say, of all the car shows I have ever been to, HIN Nightshift New York was leaps and bounds better than any other car show I had ever been to. Car for car, this show was so strong, it was hard for me to keep up with what was what and who was who. Attendance was also crazy, it was hard to navigate through the thousands of people who were in attendance, there was a crazy snaking line outside of the gate.

After the show, Preston Li from http://www.urbanracer.com Arthur Chiang, Erin Gross and I went back to the city to have dinner. Unfortunately, I was not smart enough to bring my camera with me. Dinner was amazing, and we did some light walking around the city late at night. I definitely need to go back to NYC soon!

Check out some of the action from the weekend here, I’ll have some more pics and some video from the weekend also in another post, for now be satisfied with whats here!

Goodbye #12, Hello Bag of Pucks!

The Panthers never cease to amaze me. Ollie Jokinen has been on the rumored trading block for quite some time and with the Panther’s past trading history, I figured they would have learned their lesson and made a good trade with a player that had a high value. On the list of horrible trades from Florida, you may remember names like Stu Barnes, Roberto Luongo, and Ollie Jokinen.

Wait a minute, Ollie Jokinen!?! Thats exactly what I said when i received a text from Brian Hibbs telling me that Jokinen had been traded. I was expecting to see something along the lines of Ovechkin on the back of a Panthers jersey, maybe Malkin? Crosby? Well, thats a bit far-fetched but I was hoping we would have scored an exciting goal-scoring forward. Yeah, right.

Ollie Jokinen goes to Phoenix Coyotes for Keith Ballard D, Nick Boynton D, and a 2nd round 49th overall pick. A 90 point forward, for two defensemen and a second round pick. Jaques Martin is amazing.-Not. I am pretty bitter about it, and I had a shitty day here in New York. Oh yes, I am in New York, but you will hear about that later. For now, here is what Ollie will look like next season.

Many Moon Ago

This was me, a long time ago. That’s all.
